My Daughter's First Sindhi Word

By Amit Motwani

My wife and I mostly speak English at home.

One morning my daughter looked at my father and happily said, "Dada."

The smile on his face said everything.

That one word started a new family tradition. Every Sunday we learn a new Sindhi word together. Sometimes it's the name of a fruit, sometimes it's a greeting, and sometimes it's just a funny expression my parents remember from childhood.

We're not fluent yet, but we're building something much more important—a connection between generations.
